Programme Structure and Support
The ASTAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS) is a collaboration between the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (ASTAR) and top Singapore universities. It funds PhD or EngD studies at an ASTAR Research Institute (RI) and one of the partner universities: National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), or Singapore Management University (SMU). The scholarship provides full financial support, including full tuition fees, monthly sustenance allowance and CPF contribution, and other allowances such as book, computer, conference, and thesis allowance. Scholars receive research training under the supervision of an ASTAR Research Scientist and a university co-supervisor, gaining access to state-of-the-art facilities and an international network.
Eligibility and Application
Applicants must be Singaporeans and other nationals intending to take up Singapore citizenship; Singapore Permanent Residents may also apply. They must have strong academic references and meet the PhD admission requirements of the chosen university. ASTAR may reimburse application fees paid to the university. The selection process includes interviews with ASTAR management and selection panels. Successful applicants must adhere to the university’s admission timeline and complete their PhD or EngD within four years, with the possibility of extension subject to approval.
